It is always disappointing when taking a retrospective look
at the day’s results alongside the speed figures and with the benefit of hindsight, being able to see how and why results had materialised in the way they had. Of course, the more obvious and subsequently shorter prices winners were there for all
to see, but even in those circumstances we have a tendency to look for something
more spectacular than the obvious. Perhaps the writing was on the wall from the outset with the jockey change of Stephen Craine who falls out the stalls on
Hugh Taylors tip for the day and 2 point selection for The Actuary subscribers,
Invigilator.
Not that I have anything personal against Stephen Craine
generally, it’s just a Stephen Craine at Wolverhampton thing. I am bemused by any trainer putting him in the plate at the course unless the intentions is to
ensure a lower future handicap mark.
If there was any salvation on the day, it came in the form of Seek The Fair Land at
5-4 and perhaps the fact once again the 3 profile horses, although unable to
get their heads in front, did all finish in the frame! Not exactly what we are
looking for here but I am sure our patience, based upon my year of history, will be rewarded. I did say at the outset there will be bumps and bruises
along the way in my first post on the topic Where
did that horse come from and why is it here today?.
I am adamant that these horses, are on the whole, placed to
win and hence, not surprised in the high frequency that they are placed. With
four ‘Profile’ horses today perhaps the order of the day may be ‘Win’ & ‘Place’
on the exchanges.
While you are reading this I will be having a long awaited ‘Flexible Cystoscopy’
operation so please pray I don’t come around during surgery and enjoy your days
racing on my behalf. The upside is Saturday will be spent at home convalescing in bed
watching the Winter Derby.
Remember, what ever your day is like, it should be better than mine! ;)
