Bookmakers 4-13 The Actuary!

Yesterday heralded the last two All Weather meetings for July 2012 so the last opportunity for The Actuary Horse Racing Tips to add a little more profit to what has already been a reasonably profitable month.
The first selection for subscribers was Redair in Lingfield Parks opener. Doing all his best work at the end, Redair was given a mountain to climb by Paul Hanagan. 1-0 to the bookmakers!

Next saw our 2 point selection Dance Company advised at 6-1 hold the late charging Subtle Knife to a head victory.
Dance_company_6-1
Jim Crowley drives for the line (red) with Subtle Knife (white) closing with every stride.

Taking the last turn, victory look a forlorn hope with Jim Crowley pumping away on the selection Dance Company. Once they had straighten up and balanced, the win looked a certainty with the impetus of speed on our side. But just as you thought it was all over Subtle Knife sprouted wings and left me praying for the line. Bookmakers 1-12 The Actuary thanks to Paddy Powers generous 6-1. Dance Company won at SP 2-1

The very next race provided another Actuary winner in Aniseed advised at evens. Not very adventurous but a winner is a winner.

Aniseed_evens
Ryan Moore (red cap) Jim Crowley (green cap) fight out the finish of Lingfield 4:35

This was not exactly winning as an even money horse should as Ryan Moore had to work very hard to get Aniseed past the long term leader Caphira. Once past Jim Crowley's mount Aniseed appear to be pulling away in the final strides. Bookmakers 1-13 The Actuary.

If it carried on like this, what a day it would have been, but we followed up with three flops!

Frankie Dettori elected to give everything a head start on 13-8 fav Mizbah and was still last with a furlong to go but finished a creditable third. Cymeriad broke on terms to be prominent but found nothing off the bridle under Graham Gibbons, and finally Camache Queen who picked up well going for the line under Eddie Ahern but was third in a three-way photo.

A disappointing end to the day. A good end to the month and the final score on the day of Bookmakers 4-13 The Actuary which I would take everyday if offered :)

Ostentatious Leonna Mayor takes the lucky last!

With no selections for subscribers to The Actuary Horse Racing Tips from Lingfield Parks two All Weather races on last nights six race card, I was hopeful for a good showing from the figures and stars for those wanting to make a play.

The first (8:00) was a little disappointing with Suzi's A Class Act, top rated and starred failing to get the gallop she needed as they dawdled over over Lingfield's 2 miles finishing fourth.

The last race was a split verdict with Ostentation getting the star rating over top rated Always Eager. After a quiet period for Leonna Mayor on the All Weather our love affair was rekindled with her ride on 10-1 Ostentation. Having decided on a slow start from a wide draw Ostentation found itself at the back of the pack. There was no fancy tactics at play here, Leonna simply kept the horse at an even pace throughout, encircling the field as Joe Fanning on Always Eager slowed the pace mid race. Ostentation found itself in front and on the bridle as they swept around the final bend and was simply kept going all the way to the line by Leonna.

Exposed Zenaat 7-1 makes a profitable day for The Actuary

With little to get our teeth in to in the first two races at Lingfield Park, the first selection of the day for subscribers was the 3:10 in the form of Zenaat. Much like the first two races there was very little in the way of All Weather form to paint a picture of how the race might unfold but having watched a re-run of Zenaat's previous race felt rather smug that the race unfolded pretty much as I expected.

Zenaat_7-1
Ryan Moore rides second winner of six on the day oboard Zenaat at Lingfield Park

Ryan Moore got the perfect sit over Lingfields 1 mile and 1/2 and as the 2-5 fav and long time leader Mashaari came under the Paul Hanagan pump, Zenaat just kept on galloping. Cottesmore took up the running coming in to the straight. Zenaat just kept on galloping and went by half a furlong out. I don't think there was ever a burst of finishing speed from the selection. Zenaat was simply able to maintain the same relentless gallop as the others flagged. Returning at 7-1 guaranting The Actuary Horse Racing Tips subscribers a profit for the day with 3 selections still to run.

After side stepping the 3:40 the next race of interest 4:10 saw two selections in Holly Martins and Ukranian. Well, this is where the crystal ball appeared broken. If I was to be certain of anything on the day it would be Holly Martins and Ukranian bowling along clear of the field with the remainder sure that they would come back to them, but one would maintain the advantage to the line.

No, completely wrong. Holly Martins led but was pursued throughout by Regal Aura and was never more than two lengths ahead before fading tamely finishing out of the places. Our 2 point selection Ukranian, backed from 10-1 down to 9-2 made no show at all.

The final selection Blueberry Fizz in the next was done for after breaking slowly. Not something you can afford to do over 5 furlong at Lingfield.

In summary, not a pretty win to runners ratio of 20% but you cant bank ratios, you can bank the days 3 point profit :)

No consistency as Stewards allowed result to stand at Worcester

Paul Moloney weighed in one and a half pounds light on the well-backed winner Green To Gold at Worcester, co-owned by Sir Alex Ferguson and was still allowed to keep the race! To be consistent with similar past events the local stewards should have disqualified Green to Gold following the objection from the clerk of the scales as Moloney weighed in at 11st 8lb after weighing out at 11st 10lb.
However, they used their discretion and sited the extremely hot weather and Moloney's inability to rehydrate in-between races and stated 'these circumstances are exceptional so the stewards allowed the result to stand'.
Green For Gold, trained by Don Cantillon, was sent off the evens favourite for the Find Us On Facebook Handicap Chase and justified strong support with a convincing victory by five lengths.
"It's automatic that if a rider weighs in more than 1lb under weight, the clerk of the scales is obliged to report to the stewards" stipendiary steward Paul Barton told At The Races.
The rule gives the stewards the power to disqualify if they aren't satisfied or even on some occasions where they are satisfied and they know the reason. If a rider lost a weight cloth in a race and it led to the 1lb under weight the horse would be disqualified, but the rider would not be penalised. What happened under these circumstances, and they are extremely unusual and I've not known this invoked before, is that Paul Moloney weighed out for the first race and at the same time weighed out for the second. We held a stewards' inquiry straight after the first race and came into our stewards' room which was extremely hot and sat in there, still sweating, and went out for the second race. He came back in and weighed in more than a pound under weight. The digital scales measure in half-pounds, not in ounces in between. What we heard from the clerk of the scales on his (Moloney's) body weight before he went out and when he came back in, the weight loss was caused by him sweating. All the lads can do is take a drink and hope they rehydrate. We had him in the stewards' room for five minutes or more, holding an inquiry, so he didn't get the opportunity to rehydrate.

Big prices at Southwell vindicate 'NO SELECTIONS'

Although The Actuary Horse Racing Tips top rated two of the six Southwell winners with Three Bards SP 11-4 and Soopacal 7-2, the return of 'NO SELECTIONS' for subscribers was, I feel vindicated with three winners coming from horses untried and unrated on the surface.

The first races saw Only Ten Per Cent do to Alpha Tauri what Alpha Tauri did to Only Ten Per Cent last time out over C&D. The next race saw the complete outsider Layla's Boy win by 12 lengths before what I would call a rational result in Three Bards SP 11--4, top rated and 'Pace and Going' highlighted beat the 11-10 favorite by 2.1/2 lengths.

Three_bards_right Three_bards_left
Three_bards_swerve_in_front_of Three_bards_right_again
Three Bards (green, red cao) swerving left and right accross the path of News Show

Three Bards margin of success would suggest a far more comfortable victory than it actually achieved. In fact I would go a further and say that News Show should have won but for the antics of Three Bards swerving under the whip from one side of the course to the other across the path of Alice Haynes aboard New Show. Not until Alice felt confident that there was enough distance between the two horses did she get in to the drive on News Show , closing all the way to the line.

The next race was one for a wide birth with four lightly raced 2yo Maiden, won by odds on favorite Hunting Rights SP 8-13 before returning to the ridiculous results with 40-1 Applaud taking the next. Never within 10 lengths of the winner in its last 6 races, Applaud bounded away from its rivals with consummate ease.

Soopacal_7-2
Soopacal (yellow and red) comes in to the straight cantering as his rivals pump away.

Soopacal travelled well throughout the pen-ultimate race, which is no guarantee of success here at Southwell as we know from Yas Marinas last effort. From a wide draw, Soopacal had to travel three wide for the vast majority of the trip but was still the last off the bridle. Found itself in the lead as they swung for home ans stayed there with a minimal of effort under Dale Swift.

With half the field un-raced on the surface and the other half well exposed, no surprise that the winner was from the former bunch in the last in the form of Saaboog.

In all, a wise move to keep the powder dry for another day, just a little remorse that top-rated Soopacal went un-backed after such a facile win but hindsight is a wonderful thing :)

Horse Racing Tips: Hayaku to fast at 22-1

There is no gratification in top rating a 22-1 winner that goes un-backed especially when that 22-1 winner was the highlight and the only thing to show for my hard work at Lingfield Park.

On the turf, no surprises in the first with top rated and the only highlighted ‘Pace and Going’ horse on the card, Tobacco Road winning at an SP of 13-8. The second race was given a wide birth with no points of reference. The third had my top two declare non-runners.

Hayaku 22-1 strikes the front with Roxelana (red sleeves and cap) beating a retreat

On to the AW we had three disappointments, two coming under the stewardship of Seb Sanders who gave both Potentiale and Aciano identical rides from the front finishing third and second respectively. The winner of Potentiale race Officer in Command was also top rated. The final insult to injury came with top rated Hayaku (Japanese for 'fast') winning the finale at 22-1 with the selection Roxelana finding reverse gear as they turned for home.

In summary three un-backed top rated winners from four races of interest equals total frustration!

Do you know when to Back and Lay?

After a period of feeling we can walk on water The Actuary Horse Racing Tips had a thoroughly miserable Monday with nothing positive to report after a very careful retrospective scrutiny of the cards and results. Well, we got back to winning ways yesterday. Nothing major but a little profit after a bad day is always nice.
Strictly Pink getting squashed in to the rail to start proceedings left me feeling we may be in for more punishment but the manner of victory of The Actuary selection in the second race was ironically a reverse of what did for our selection in the third.
So lets play a little game of BACK or LAY!
Click the picture below to watch the clip and decide which you are going to do :)

So would you BACK or LAY? Here is the finish

OK, I appreciate that was a tough one, here is an easier one with The Actuary selection in the very next race. Click the image below to play the clip.

So would you BACK or LAY? Click the image below for the finish

If you got 2 out of 2 and didn't know the results you could make a living from trading!
Our final winning selection of the day was the short priced Kung Hei Fat Choy available at 11-10. Full respect to Graham Lee who was in Leonna Major's slip stream for most of the race and must have been sorely tempted to stay there and asking her to go around again!
