Big prices at Southwell vindicate 'NO SELECTIONS'

Although The Actuary Horse Racing Tips top rated two of the six Southwell winners with Three Bards SP 11-4 and Soopacal 7-2, the return of 'NO SELECTIONS' for subscribers was, I feel vindicated with three winners coming from horses untried and unrated on the surface.

The first races saw Only Ten Per Cent do to Alpha Tauri what Alpha Tauri did to Only Ten Per Cent last time out over C&D. The next race saw the complete outsider Layla's Boy win by 12 lengths before what I would call a rational result in Three Bards SP 11--4, top rated and 'Pace and Going' highlighted beat the 11-10 favorite by 2.1/2 lengths.

Three Bards margin of success would suggest a far more comfortable victory than it actually achieved. In fact I would go a further and say that News Show should have won but for the antics of Three Bards swerving under the whip from one side of the course to the other across the path of Alice Haynes aboard New Show. Not until Alice felt confident that there was enough distance between the two horses did she get in to the drive on News Show , closing all the way to the line.

The next race was one for a wide birth with four lightly raced 2yo Maiden, won by odds on favorite Hunting Rights SP 8-13 before returning to the ridiculous results with 40-1 Applaud taking the next. Never within 10 lengths of the winner in its last 6 races, Applaud bounded away from its rivals with consummate ease.

Soopacal (yellow and red) comes in to the straight cantering as his rivals pump away.

Soopacal travelled well throughout the pen-ultimate race, which is no guarantee of success here at Southwell as we know from Yas Marinas last effort. From a wide draw, Soopacal had to travel three wide for the vast majority of the trip but was still the last off the bridle. Found itself in the lead as they swung for home ans stayed there with a minimal of effort under Dale Swift.

With half the field un-raced on the surface and the other half well exposed, no surprise that the winner was from the former bunch in the last in the form of Saaboog.

In all, a wise move to keep the powder dry for another day, just a little remorse that top-rated Soopacal went un-backed after such a facile win but hindsight is a wonderful thing :)
