I would be hard pressed to pin my colours to the mast of
much at Kempton Park outside of the subscribers selections. With races full of
square pegs in round holes in the early part of the card with the horses setting
the standard all competing over distances unfamiliar.
Whether I was looking to hard or for too long but the one
thing that stood out was in the lucky last. With the exception of three horses,
we have a good measure of the 6 remaining horses who have all competed over
C&D previously.
In no particular order Saloomy, sired by Sharmadal who has a
excellent record over this C&D is now off a mark 13 points higher than its
previous C&D run. Twenty One Choice is stepped back in trip after just
failing to gather in the winner last time out over 7f which makes it difficult
to understand the step back to 6f. Two times C&D winner Zhiggy's Stardust
was found out in 0-80 company LTO and steps up again. Compton has its first
outing on Fibresand and is dropping from ratings in the 90's. The step back to
6f is interesting after 7f and 8f outings to reduce its mark but there is
little sign that its current mark is sufficient enough to be attractive. Its
profile suggests a preference for soft ground so this may well be a prep. Decision
By One has dropped to a winning mark but times suggest greater modesty than the
form line. SHAMAHAN another Sharmadal and another Fibresand debutante and
lightly raced for a 4yo with only 5 outings to its name. Won a modest 0-75 at
Bath LTO but the strong finish with Pat Dobbs coasting in the final stages would suggest that there is plenty more in the
locker and is currently trading at 11-2. The Dark Wizard is now racing of a
mark of 77. 7 higher than when previously beaten by Zhiggy's Stardust over C&D. Street Power has 5
C&D runs to its name but recent runs suggest a steady decline from previous
form. Sean Levey is the last jockey to ride Avonmore Star to success back in
July 2012 and takes the ride tonight. Although it has the best C&D speed
figure it hasn't showed the same dash for over a year.
Yes! perhaps I am looking to hard ;)
