With form figures of 479 having finished beaten 19 lengths,
15.3/4 lengths, 8.1/4 lengths in its last three runs it would be easy to
overlook FOLLOW THE FLAG in the Southwell 1:25. Dig a little deeper and we
see these runs were in a Class 5 0-70, Class 5 0-70 and a Class 5 0-75
respectively.
Competing today at the head of the handicap in a Class 6
0-60 looks an entirely different proposition for FOLLOW THE FLAG whose last
time out speed figure also puts him at the head of the field.
8 times course and distance winner McConnell l is likely to
head the market, but with its last win back in February 2012 it makes little
appeal having attempted to add to that tally on 6 further occasions. Despite being
dropped from its last winning mark of 69 to 53 there has been little sign of a
return to form.
It has been some time since FOLLOW THE FLAG was in this company and we have to take on trust that it has lost none of its zip over this trip but at a price of 10-1 I would be disappointed if it didn't at least make the frame.
