Pace and Going picks for Southwell and Wolverhampton

Ronaldinho showed no signs of the finishing ability seen in its previous two races, was outpaced and only able to beat one home making it a poor start for our ‘Pace and Going’ selections. Shestheman was equally as disappointing leaving us Spokeswoman in a race where four had become three and the price prohibitive. Regardless of price Spokeswoman couldn’t collect finishing second of three!

Max The Machine chases home Dutch Masterpiece here at Southwell back in July

3:30 Max The Machine previous run at Southwell saw it 5 lengths clear of the rest of the field chasing home Dutch Masterpiece in a good time. With little course form to go on in the race a think Max The Machine set the bar high enough for a punt.

4:00 Girl At The Sands \ La Sylphe, the later being named after an 1890’S exotic dancer of the Folies Bergere stayed on strongly to win over course and distance back in July, as has Girl At The Sands back in August. I would rather take this two with proven form rather than trust unknown quantities on this surface.

5:30 Layla’s King has that all important previous winning credentials here at Southwell over 7f when she was staying on to good effect and has been competitive over 1 ½ miles on the turf so no stamina doubts in getting this 1m

6:40 Little Jimmy Odsox has shown little in a year on turf but it was September 2011 that LJO appeared over course and distance, winning on a mark of 75. Now racing off 67 has to be respected if putting the best foot forward.

7:40 Marchwood \ Special Report. Marchwood has been knocking on the door for all of its eight runs and I would suggest that the booking of Jamie Spencer last time out and the ride given was for an expert opinion on what the horse needs to get its head and front. The answer appears to be 7f! Special Report was staying on well behind Ouzinkie a couple of days ago and the step up is favourable given two of three previous turns at the trip.

Good Luck
