Ruscello shows a bit of class at Kempton Park

The feature race on Kempton Park's card 8:50 Class 4 Betfair Handicap over 11 furlongs produced a very smart performance from 6-1 Ruscello. The race was set up for a fast time with the front running Ballyheigue scorching off in front to lead the field by a good 5 lengths as they turned in.

Ruscello (yellow on rail) under William Buick hits the front and starts to extend its lead

Ballyheigue was soon swamped by challengers with Ruscello having to sit and suffer, trapped against the rail with nowhere to go until diving for the rail at the cut away. Within a matter of strides William Buick was in front but initially looked likely to be swamped by a number of wide challengers but Ruscello found another gear and looked to be edging away again in the final strides.

Ruscello came into the race with its only previous success back in May on Lingfield Park's polytrack in a Class 5 over 10 furlongs. The latest success would suggest that 1 mile 4 is well within scope but currently has no further entries.
