You may be forgiven for thinking that as I have chosen to
specialise in All Weather racing that I am an emissary and staunch advocate for
racing on artificial surfaces. Although I make good profits from the All
Weather every year the processes and methods I use can be equally rewarding on
both ‘Flat Turf’ racing and ‘National Hunt’. The ONLY reason that the All
Weather has become my poison of choice is that the workload and spread of
meetings is more manageable than the other codes so the occasional added fixtures is not always welcome news.
I fully understand the majority view that All Weather racing
lacks something of the spectacle enjoyed on the National Hunt and to a degree
flat racing and if you are a National Hunt fan during the winter months I am
sure the loss of meetings can be frustrating. It must be particularly frustrating
when the BHA take the measure of adding an extra fixture on the All Weather to pacify
racing fans loss of a National Hunt meeting.
Surely it takes no more effort to add an additional National
Hunt fixture than it does an All Weather fixture. At a time of year when National
Hunt trainers have their stables firing on all cylinders you would expect an additional
National Hunt fixtures to be better supported than from the limited stock available on the
All Weather.
I am totally bewildered by the decision of the BHA, on the
loss of Sundays Fontwell meeting to organise an additional fixture at
Wolverhampton. Not just in terms of the code but in geographical terms. With
Fontwell tucked down in the South East with at least 10 National Hunt courses
in close proximity and two All Weather courses far easier accessed by the racing
enthusiasts likely to have made the trip to Fontwell, they make the decision to
hold the additional fixture in the Midlands!
Am I missing something?
Good Luck to all playing at 'Leafy' today :)
