Mishrif, Master Of Song and Emperatriz all have a level of
appeal in the Southwell opener at 12:10. The latter of the three ran disappointingly
for me only three days ago and I am loathed to go in again. AMTIRED has proven
to be the most consistent over this C&D but has been raced over further
since 2011. Is it possible we will see AMTIRED reproduce that form at 28-1?
The form on offer in the 12:40 from Bapak Pesta and Poetic
Belle wont strike fear in to the souls of the 5 Southwell debutants of which
KEPT has the best sire stats.
The 1:10 offers a similar scenario to the 12:40 with the two
unraced Fillies Wildcat Lass and Windshield offering the best sire stats but
are price reasonably enough to dutch.
Although we have little Southwell form in the 13:40 race I
was taken with CHANCEUSE’s C&D effort on its first attempt on the surface.
Three subsequent runs over 8f at Wolverhampton and Kempton Park have done
little to enthuse but back on this surface, over 7f, in this company, at 9-1,
is well worth the gamble.
The manner of victory by both PENSAX LAD and Black Vale suggest
there was more in the tank. Whereas Black Vale steps back in trip PENSAX LAD is
stepping up 1 furlong which should be more favourable to take the 2:10
Greenhead High and Angelo Poliziano set a good standard in
the 2:45 and the gap between them in the market comes as a surprise. Sandwiched
between them in the market is the horse of most interest to me. With a running
style and sire stats that endorses my thoughts FORTINBRASS looks a strong
candidate for the winner’s enclosure on its Southwell debut. The negative is
the jockey booking but today could be the day S H James rides a first winner!
It would be extremely difficult to pin your colours to the
mast of any of the participants in Wolverhampton’s opener at 15:50 based upon current
achievement and profile. CAPTAIN MO is the only débutante and wouldn't need to
be special to take this. I wish the owners luck with the after race auction!
There is no surprise in the quick return of Alben Star after
a creditable run two days ago in a similar event at Lingfield Park when beaten
in to 4th by Tarooq. It is difficult to weigh-up the chances of the
French raider Caspian Sea who is coming along away not to be more competitive
than its price suggests.
TRINITYELITEDOTCOM appears to be still on an upward
curve and comes in to this race with a 100% three out of three over this trip.
The 5:20 has another horse making a quick return, this time
1 day in Major Muscari who appeared to need all of the Kempton Park 6f to
finish a never nearer second. This begs the question, how suitable will today's
5f be? Sir Geoffrey will find this a lot easier than the race he was withdrawn
from yesterday when delivering me a 35p Rule 4 on the winner to boot! For me
the bet in the race is BALATINA (18-1) who has put up two above standard performances
from three runs over this trip.
The form lines in the 5:55 race could be covered by a postage
stamp and is probably not a race to get heavily involved in. Most fit in to the
bracket of either poor or inconsistent and the trip has me pointing to an inconsistent
CLASSY TRICK who has at least on occasion run with some merit. We have one débutante
to the surface in Disco Dave and Do More Business, Mill I Am, Ryedale Lass and
Aureolin Gulf to consider for the places.
I was tempted to accidentally forget the 6:30 with most of the
better form horses not fitting in with the trip: Luv U Whatever, Taxiformissbyron
and Lucy Bee. This company looks to be a big step up for Berkley Street who has
run well over the trip put the pin drops on SHORT SHRIFT who ran creditably in
her pen-ultimate run over a similar trip at Lingfield Park.
Good luck and enjoy :)
