Trotter by nickname, Trotter by nature as Nicholls gets his mount beat!

It is always pleasing to back a horse at 7-2 that goes off at 5-4. The subscriber horse on this occasion was BE ROYALE. Unfortunately the day was tarnished prior to this by, in my eyes, a poor ride from ‘Trotter’ Nicholls on our previous selection Frost Fire.

Having lead throughout Adrian Nicholls felt the race was in the bag as he drove the horse out to the line and only when challenged and very narrowly passed by odds on Jaladee did Nicholls step it up a gear to close back down to within a nose. A couple of stride later Frost Fire was back in front suggesting there was still more in the tank for the jockey perceptive enough to use it!

Although not a penny left my pocket, as suggested yesterday on this page IFFRANESIA took the Wolverhampton 4:20 and I did feel a little resentful when it returned at 7-2 due to the heavy support of Give Us A Belle.

In today’s triple header of All Weather cards LIVIAS DREAM looks a big price in Kempton Park’s 6:00 given her last time out run at 100-1 which saw it beaten in to second, 1.3/4 lengths behind Speckled in a similar event. With a record of 1st and 2nd from her two starts over C&D 12-1 looks good value for the EW but we could have done with a field of 8.

It is unusual to see such small fields on a Dundalk card and the 7:00 looks an ideal opportunity for HE’S OUR MUSIC (11-2) to follow up on its last time out victory over C&D 26 days ago.

TIMJOE (9-2) looks to have big claims in the 9:15 but I think this looks tougher opposition than when winning over C&D 5 days ago in an Apprentice Handicap. The danger may come in the form of SHE’S NO JOKE (9-1) who lost the maiden tag when stepped up to today’s trip last time out and this 3yo has arguably more scope for improvement than the 6yo favourite.

Good luck today J
