Horseracing is one of the oldest traditions in Mongolia. It is a national sport where children over 7 years old are chosen to be jockeys and compete in races 15-30 km in distance.
Mongolian horse racing leaves many tourists shocked not amazed, because they are some of the toughest horse races in the world where children ride horses long distances without proper protective gear.
There have been many incidents where child jockeys were seriously injured when falling off their horses. Many Mongolians today agree that a change has to be made in horse racing for the sake of child jockeys.
