Frankie Dettori nominated African Story as his best chance of a winner on the star-studded card on Saturday and his mount lived up to the billing as he stormed clear to land the opener at Meydan in a race sponsored by his owners. African Story, trained by Saeed Bin Suroor, took up the running coming into the home straight and unleashed a blistering turn of foot to score by four lengths from the running-on Viscount Nelson, with the Charlie Hills-trained Red Jazz in third. Red Jazz led for most of the contest under Michael Hills as Dettori and African Story were settled on the rail in third.Western Aristocrat, representing Jeremy Noseda, was settled in mid-pack by Ryan Moore but it was clear African Story was moving much the best as Red Jazz attempted to slip the field with three furlongs to run.
Dettori was alive to the move and angled 5-6 favourite African Story off the rail and to the outside of Red Jazz. From there, he quickened up smartly to move readily clear of his trailing rivals.Dettori, who was obviously impressed, said: "It was a push-button result for me. He had won his prep well and had a good draw."
The result provided Bin Suroor with his ninth victory in the contest. It was also Godolphin's fourth straight success in the race. Read the full story at: http://www.racingpost.com/news/horse-racing/saeed-bin-suroor-frankie-dettori-godolphin-mile-african-story-mauls-rivals-under-dettori/1008691/
