No Upstarts but one for the Little Black Book!

A little late but here is the retrospective look at Kempton Parks meeting 22nd August.

With only three races of interest, one race (7:20) where the potential pace became a non-runner turning it in to a tactical affair and in hindsight would have been better left alone.

Our first race selection Gallipot got us off on the right foot scoring by an uncomfortable margin for a horse backed from 11-4 to SP Evens.

Gallipot available at 11-4 stalked the pace setting Hayaku and took up the running a good 1/2 mile out with only Bedazzled (Hayley Turner) able to go with the selection and offer a challenge. It looked at times that Bedazzled was coming to take Gallipot but Rob Havlin squeezed a little bit more and each time Gallipot found more as they drove for the line. The first two finished a good 9 lengths clear of third placed Livia's Dream.

In the last our attention was with 2 point selection Angelic Upstart who seemed a very generous price at a high of 15-2 but I feel jockey indecision may have costs us the victory.

Angelic Upstart was settled in mid field by Jimmy Fortune and could be seen to be in two minds as they put the pedal to the metal, switching inside and then outside to deliver a challenge closing all the way to the line. If Little Black Book was a shorter price I would have simply shrugged my shoulders at the result but comparing C&D ratings for the pair question why I was not on Little Black Book at 14-1

The Actuary selection 14-1 Star Links routs it rivals to land a big pay day for subscribers!

With 9 selections and 12 points at stake, yesterday was likely to play a pivotal part for The Actuary Horse Racing Tips figures for August. As I was travelling back to the UK for the most part of the afternoon and evening I spent every available opportunity in getting results from my mobile. Any anxiety was lifted by 5:20 after Abhaath and Star Links had guaranteed a profit for the day and subsequent winners, which we had a plenty, became a bonus.

The one race I did catch before leaving was another abysmal ride by William Buick on our first, Cross Pattee in 3:20 Wolverhampton. Surely any advantage you can gain is a 6 furlong sprint is invaluable. Buick , after breaking well decided to give the selection such a tug that it nearly came to a complete standstill!

The second selection fared little better with De Sousa finding Cristal Jem a tough challenge as she raced extremely wide pulling for head before folding tamely from a prominent position. Then the fun began!

Abhaath, second time up as a selection in the last 6 days, finishing well from the rear at 20-1 last time out was this time kept prominent by Darren Egan. Advised at 8-1 in The Actuary evening email was backed down to an SP of 3-1. Muhandis fast finish was the only danger to what was a facile victory.

Winner 1: Abhaath advised 8-1 

Tiradito 20-1 was the next selection up in the 16:50 and ran respectfully with a wall of 7 horses within 2 lengths of each other at the line making the Handicapper a happy man.
 
Next up, Star Links advised at 6-1, drifted like a barge out to 14-1 and routed the field for a comfortable victory and secured at least a 10 point profit for the day with 6 selections and 8 points still to be played but paid for as we headed to Kempton Park.

Winner 2: Star Links 14-1

First up at Kempton, Emperors Daughter advised at 6-1 and backed down to 3-1 suggested that connections were expecting a bigger run than the end result produced. The selection ran like a pacemaker, blitzing off with the subsequent winner Stripped Bare only to fade badly to finish 5^th.

Like Abhaath, the next selection Dynamic Duo (5-2) was a 2 point selection 4 days ago only to find the Godolphin dynamic duo too much. This time the spoils were landed and our patience rewarded, our previous loss returned with a little profit.

Winner 3: Dynamic Duo advised 5-2

Things just got better and better as the winners continued My Mate Jake advised at 15-8 took 19:20 Kempton Park and returned at SP 7-2. Once again as with Star Links the importance of BOG bookmakers plays out and gains us a total of 9.5+ points. This was a fortuitous win given that Ashkalara was climbing all over the front two for the best part of the final furlong.

Ziefhd 15-8 our next selection takes the 19:50 Kempton Park and we start to think we can walk on water. In a head bopping finish Cathy Gannon gets the better of Richard Kingscote

The failure of our last two selections Excellent News 20-1 and 3 point selection Way To Hot could do little to dampen spirits after an excellent day which was well worthy of a days rest tomorrow :)
