Hitting the ground running on the All Weather!

As we said goodbye to the turf flat season this week I am always hopeful that we can hit the ground running for subscribers, new and old, and the week didn't disappoint with some nice big priced winners. I know many subscribers tend to focus more on the weekend cards so the pressure was very much on to provide a profitable Saturday, especially for those undecided whether they would spend the winter focusing on All Weather or National Hunt.   With 13 points at stake across the two cards there could be no better start than having your first selection of the day provide the bank 15 points. Brocklebank 3 point selection (On The Money, The Actuary, Speed and Class) advised at 5-1 (SP 9-2) guaranteed we would have a winning day and that was before our remaining 7 selections had even been saddled. We went in to the next race (13:40) mob handed with three selections from the six runners and made a small profit as Tidals Bay available at 11-4 (SP 5-2) chalked up an additional 0.75 points for us. I know, I have no pride! I would have been embarrassing with half the field running for us not to have a return. That I know from past experience.  We had no further interests at Lingfield Park until 15:55 where the 2 point sole selection (Trip Handicap, On The Money) for the race was Solar Deity advised at 7-2 (SP 11-4) After looking all over the winner turning into the straight Solar Deity looked like running out of real-estate as it reeled in the long time leader but was 1/2 length to the good at the line providing another 7 points to the bank.     A nice rest and time to catch the second half reports on the Football before Wolverhampton. Why cantevery Saturday be scheduled this way? The first race of interest at Wolverhampton was the 6:20 with our first of two Trip Handicap selections on the card Baltis Sister, advised at 7-1 (SP 5-1)  Whether it was confidence spilling over from LIngfield Park or my finely homed in play skills (tongue planted firmly in cheek) but I felt a long way out that the result was never in doubt as long as Baltis Sister got the necessary breaks. A continuation of where we left off at Lingfield Park and another 7 points for the bank.    Unfortunately that was the end of the party with Missing Agent (advised 10-1) in the 7:50 making the running and looking like a candidate for the winners enclosure only to fade dramatically once collared by the heavily backed Gworn. Finally 2 point selection in the 9:20 Eltifaat (available at 5-1) was only able to get within 1.1/4 lengths of the even money favorite to finish second.      I hope to see you refreshed and raring to go for Wolverhampton on Monday afternoon The Actuary Horse Racing Tips subscription are available at £30 per month

      

Horse Racing Tips: Pace and Going 3-4-2day

After only Modern Lady (9-1) could make the frame from yesterday five ‘Pace and Going’ highlights we can only live in the hope that we can do better today from the little scratching of form available.

As per my previous comments the form lines for the three highlights above look extremely tenuous so would look to play them as singles.

Do you swerve Apprentice Handicaps?

I am sure there are many among you that tend to question the wisdom of backing horses in Apprentice and Amateur races. As a man that plays percentages it comes as no surprise that I frequently have strong selections in these races and I am extremely keen to play heavily in them.

When you consider the purpose of these races it becomes easy to understand why form holds up so well. These lads are not riding for a day out at the races or for the riding fee. I would also be surprised if the connections are entering horses in the hope of getting a winning OR.

Yesterday at Southwell The Actuary starred selection Ace Of Spies won the Apprentice Handicap at  20-1. Today we saw Mutual Regards 11-8 (2-1 available) win the Apprentice Handicap at Lingfield Park.

History tells me these results are not a fluke and Apprentice Handicaps have been the most consistent race type in providing me with a profit for the last 4 years. 

This is not a promise to deliver the winner in every Apprentice Handicap, simply a heads up not to ignore these races! 

Horse Racing Tips: Pace and Going Friday 16th November 2012

Why yesterdays 'Pace and Going' highlights never made the blog is a mystery as the agent I used to post 'Posterous' reported back that it had been sent! Not that there was anything to gloat over in the results.

For the record we had only the one winner in Lilac Lace 11-10. While Havin' A Good Time didn't have such a good time, Gaelic Wizard's performance was less than magical, Centred was drawn and quartered, Sugarformyhoney and Tarbawi....well you get the picture.

After two days of Southwell and Kempton lets see if a change of scenery can be more lucrative.

Horse Racing Tips: Pace and Going Thursday 15th November 2012

It was a 50-50 day for our ‘Pace and Going’ highlights yesterday with 2 of the 4 winning. In terms of multiples you can guarantee that it will be the shortest two that win and we got our guarantee!

Thanks for the emails from those of you with access to the figures pointing out there were in fact 5 selections and I had omitted Belgian Bill. Had we put him in to a Canadian we could taken pride in finding the three shortest price All Weather winners on the day and not just two J

Horse Racing Tips: Jamie Spencer and Teolagi save the day

When you start the day with an odds-on flop you would think your day can only get better. And it did!  But first we had to limp through the remainder of the Southwell card with interests in 6 of the 8 races.

Dubawi Island (yellow and black) backed from 12-1 to 4-1 takes a diversion after leading in to the straight.

There was more than a glimmer of hope when Dubawi Island (advised at 12-1) looked like landing the spoils at it poured it on in the 2:50 but taking a diversion in search of the quickest route back to the stables in the straight cost our selection who ended up under the stand rail and a deficit of just over a length at the line.

Although not a selection for subscribers there was a little more hope that we were not to wide of the mark at Southwell when the starred selection Outpost, also available at 12-1 earlier in the day held on in the 3:20 to land the spoils at 6-1.

The start of the Kempton card appeared to be more of the same and 2 point selection Horsted Keynes (available at 8-15) did little other than assist in damage limitations.

When your final 2 point selection of the day is rousted out of the stalls and falls to the back of the field. Is being nudged and cajoled throughout the race and then drops out the back of the television in the straight you would think that it was game over for the day.

But not today!  The 2 point selection was Teolagi advised at 14-1 overnight and came with a withering run in Kempton Parks 7:25 to get up by the narrowest of margins in one of those photo finishes that are hard to call in real time. I have heard the expression ‘what a difference a day makes’ but 'two seconds' changed my day. On reflection I appreciate that the strike rate for the day was pretty dismal BUT you try spending a strike rate! Its all about P&L not strike rates.

n.b. I am aware from emails received that very few got 14-1 and 9-1 was the average as the horse was being heavily punted overnight. I think that this is an unusual circumstance but in the hope that it will give more subscribers the opportunity to get the first opening prices, where the following days runners are not reliant on the results of the day I will start to post selection as soon as I have completed the process. This will usually be mid to late afternoon.

Horse Racing Tips: Pace and Going highlights for Wednesday 14th November 2012

We left off last week with a ’Pace and Going’ double in which unfortunately only one horse, Space Artist could deliver. Our other selection Another Citizen looked very much like the winner turning for home but was collared late in the straight by Diman Waters (11-1) ironically one of the days star selections. 

That is the nature of the game with methodical selection methods but I would rather back two horses in a race than toss a coin.

Although the quality of the video and content are poor quality to be honest I lost the thread of the conversation as my mind wandered on to things like 'What is she wearing under the mack' :)

Beauty to one side this girl can really get a horse going and I truly believe she as strong as any man in a finish. I am always happy to have her on my side in a race.   

Horse Racing Tips: Pace and Going highlights for Friday 9th November 2012

Those that took yesterdays advised and added Sonko to their multiples will be a little happier than those that didnt after it made all to win at 16-1. We certainty ended up with one off everything yesterday with Swing Easy also winning, Advanced just failing to get in the frame at a big price, Ertikaan a non runner and Midnight Dream finishing second.

I thought I would offer and explanation as to why Sonko was not put up as an outright selection. First, looking at Swing Easy's race, although we have little in the way of form, Swing Easy has overachieved in its only All Weather start so is viewed to have a 100% record. 

 

Sonko, although has consistently overachieved there is a question mark hanging over one of its performances back in November 2011 at Kempton where the 99.3% was recorded so is viewed as 75% 

Enough about yesterday, we have a couple of 'Pace and Going' highlights for tonights Wolverhampton card in the form of:

The Actuary Top rated and star selection Sonko makes all at 16-1

After a day of seconds, winners abounded yesterdays for The Actuary Horse Racing Tips selections. 

Unfortunately the prices didn’t reflect the hard work it took to arrive at the selections with Noverre To Go, Nenge Mboko and Kenny Powers among the winners across the two cards. We even had a 16-1 top rated and starred selection in Sonko.

And we also had a few of the obligatory seconds thrown in to the mix with Paddy Saltantes (14-1) and through my miss- calculation we side solely with Marmot Bay (9-2) in Wolverhampton’s 4:50 and should have also backed Archie Stevens but errors like that tend to focus and sharpen the mind!

The Actuary Top rated and star selection Sonko leads pillar to post at 16-1

As a foot note to yesterday’s events, It was noticeable at Lingfield Park, which has the shortest straight of the four All Weather courses (1.5 furlongs) where you would usually see horses cutting down the leader in the straight, that no fewer than 4 horses that led turning in held on to take the prize.

With three second placings and a 10-1 third, yesterdays super yankee wasn't so super but we live to fight again today with four 'Pace and Going' highlights across the two All Weather cards at Lingfield Park  and Wolverhampton.

The first is a little on the short side so if you were looking for alternatives Sigurwana LING 2:10 and Sonko LING 4:10 have both shown a good level of consistency.
