They think the All Weather season is all over, well its not yet!

The frequency of maximum bets (Maria's) for The Actuary Horse Racing Tips subscribers have been far an few between during 2012. The last one being Handsome Ransom @ 4-6 mid May until yesterday when Savida ticked all the boxes. I was a little peeved  by the opening price with the BOG bookmakers of around 7-4 and ended up placing my bet with Betfair where I averaged 3.34 before commission.

Not only the 'On The Money' 'The Actuary' 'Trip Handicap' and 'Speed and Class' selection, Savida was also highlighted in the P&G ratings. There was a slight moment of anxiety as they came down the straight and Savida started to go sideways ending up on the stand-side rail but the 3 length margin of victory was decisive.

As a bonus Kieran Fallon's success on 'Speed and Class' selection Goldream widely available at 3-1 earlier in the morning was even more emphatic.

Goldream was being niggled to keep is position during the early exchanges and had to deliver its challenge three wide around the last two bends, coupling this with the manner of victory suggests there is plenty more to come from Goldream.

      

Top rated perform well at Wolverhampton after track work

I had reservation over today's potential at Wolverhampton after catching the tail end of Simon Mapletoff's pre-race interview on ATR. All I heard was 'Gallop Mastered twice to put the track back close to standard' or words to that effect.

I have always been critical of the frequency of work carried out by Fergus Cameron who seems to turn the track over more frequently than the CofTC at identical surfaces at Kempton and Lingfield which in my opinion results in the erratic results at Wolverhampton.

With a maximum 4 point bet to come mid card I was pleased with how the meeting unfolded.

The 3:30 was the big one for me and the reason behind all of my concern, but a reasonably comfortable success from Mr Moore on an all to infrequent maximum bet.

Being a firm believer that the majority of bettors lose money due to poor temperament I frequently find myself analysing ‘Human Nature’ as much as the next day’s cards!

Now I appreciate this isn’t ‘GET RICH QUICK’ but that elusive chestnut may elude you for the rest of your life and cost you a lot more than £30 a month. I am simply offering a profit of varying amounts of cash each month. That little bit of extra cash that makes the difference or covers those unexpected emergencies that crops up.

£4,106.64 is the profit The Actuary Horse Racing Tips has made to a £10 stake from the start of the All Weather season (October 2011). This profit has cost subscribers £270 and has paid for some subscribers summer holidays, house extensions and conservatories and in one case a car that a subscriber had dreamt of for some time. Obviously not from £10 stakes :)

My conclusion has to be that the vast majority that took up the offer feel that they have won by having had something for nothing for a week and failed to see the bigger picture!

      

We have had a Red Double but the HS double just fails

The Actuary selection Homeword Strut just fails

It promised to be a massive payday for The Actuary horse racing tips subscribers after the first of two races of interest landing a 16-1 gamble on Hurricane Spirit, the focus then turned to 12-1 Homeword Strut in the 7.10 Kempton Park.

James Doyle on Homeword Strut had manage to see of all rivals in a bunched finish within strides of the line only to be nailed by the only un-rated horse in the race Fast Finian as they flashed past the post leaving the 'On The Money' selection Homeword Strut a creditable second at an SP of 10-1

      

The Actuary horse racing tips lands 16-1 winner of the 6:10

The Actuary Horse Racing Tips subscribers got off to a fine start with 'Speed and Class' selection Hurricane Spirit advised at 16-1 (WHill) taking the 6:10 at Kempton Park at an SP of 11-1.

All concerns of draw 13 on the 13th were put to rest after Nicole Nordblad made little effort to find herself in the slip stream of the front running Den's Gift. The field appeared to be at full stretch as they turned for home and nothing was able to mount a challenge as Hurricane Spirit hit the front to record back to back wins.

   

      

The Actuary All Weather Speed Ratings transferable to the turf

On what was an un-inspiring Lingfield Park card on Tuesday there was an inspirational reminder of how transferable my figures are. Aware that the course was already heavy, an inspection due to take place at 6:30 a.m. and more rain due in the interim I thought I would publish figures for the first three races on the card due to be run on the turf course in the hope that they may be switched to the polytrack.

After two higher rated horses pulled out Tingo In The Tale became top rated for the race. If further endorsement of its chance were needed, Tingo was also entered to run on Wednesday at Kempton Park and Jemes Doyle interviewed for his winning ride in the previous race appeared most bullish about its chances. Tingo won by the shortest of heads.

Although Tingo In The Tail was the highest rated horse in the three turf races, further vindication of how transferable The Actuary speed ratings are could be seen to good effect in the previous race with Tweet Lady having had a luckless run coming home like the proverbial express train to finish third at 12-1.

The turf was of course my entry point all those years ago but I frequently day-dream of what life would be like if only I had the time and enthusiasm to take on such a monumental task as compiling for the turf again!
 

      

The Actuary On The Money for another profitable day

I am acutely aware that yesterdays results would have provided us all with a differing amount of profit due to one I believe to be a somewhat of an error by Paddy Power. With 'On The Money' and 'The Actuary' selection Mataaleb opening over-night at 10-1. The morning saw a best price of 6-1 and finally an SP of 11-4.

After being allowed only half of my total stake on at 10-1 with Paddy Power and the other half at 8-1 with BET365 while the world and his dog analysed the misfortune of Mirco Demuro, my eyes were firmly fixed on the masterful ride of Simon Pearce who had Mataaleb so switch off he could have been asleep. The result looked to be in no doubt as they came out of the back straight. Mataaleb glided through the field and found plenty when switched around the front pair.

Along with the earlier win of Popular (4-1 WHill) again for 'On The Money' after a masterful ride (aren't they all when you are on the winner) by Tom Queally who stalked leader Khazeena all the way to ensure that the pace didn't slacken and pushed Popular out to score by a comfortable half length a profit of around 13 points for the day.

The Actuary Horse Racing Tips highlighted four P&G horses on yesterday's Wolverhampton and Lingfield Park cards. Popular available at 4-1 provided the perfect start ridden to lead a furlong out under Tom Queally for a comfortable success.

10 minutes later we were more focused on Mirco Demuro's prematurity than the results of the 4:40 which saw the P&G selection Teak beaten 1/2 length by our 'On The Money' and 'The Actuary selection Mataaleb.

The third highlighted horse was probably the most disappointing ride of the four with Neil Callan giving the selection Sound Hearts a limp-wristed ride after looking all over the winner turning for home could finish only third. Viewed through my eyes, there appeared to more in the tank than Sound Hearts and Neil Callan produced but perhaps I should have gone to SpecSavers!

Which left us with the fourth of the four and what I believed to be the strongest of the candidates with Better Be Mine. looking to have been placed very cleverly by trainer John Dunlop. Once again Better Be Mine found one to good to finish second. If vindication was needed in the choice it is worth noting that the first two home were 6 lengths clear.

Perhaps an EW Yankee would have been the best play in hindsight!

The Actuary star selects 100-1 winner at Wolverhampton

The Actuary Horse Racing Tips star selections ended a frustrating day at Wolverhampton with 100-1 winner Hold The Star. With Goldstorm 2nd at 5-2, Holly Martins 2nd 11-1, What About You 2nd 10-3 in the previous races it looked like a day of hitting the post for the star selections until Mataaleb took the 4:40 at 11-4. Sandbetweenourtoes 2nd 7-2 in the next completed a quadruple of second places before the Ann Stokell ridden and trained Hold The Star took the last at 100-1.

Hold The Star took up the running turning for home and had the rest of the field floundering with the exception of 6-5 favourite Niger who was closing down the straight but was unable to get any closer than 1.25 lengths away at the line.

A bitter pill for premature Mirco Demuro's

Mirco Demuro's stint riding in Britain took a turn for the worse at Wolverhampton yesterday when he collected a 12-day ban for riding a finish a circuit too early. After just six furlongs of the mile-and-six-furlong handicap, Demuro moved to the front aboard The Bells O Peover, a 10-1 chance, and pushed his mount clear before realising his mistake. The horse eventually completed the course last of the 11 runners.

Demuro's amazing misjudgment came just as he had started to build up some momentum, with nine winners and a decent strike-rate since he relocated to ride in Britain in April, six of those successes coming for The Bells O Peover's trainer Mark Johnston.

But, although the suspension, which includes the final three days of the Royal Ascot meeting, will disrupt his hot streak, Demuro can be hopeful of securing further rides from Johnston in the future, according to his agent, Gareth Owen.

"There's not much I can say, but I've spoken briefly to Mark Johnston and he was very understanding and said that it's a mistake you only make once as a jockey," said Owen.

By and large, Johnston's assertion is correct, although the apprentice Dean Mernagh somehow managed to be banned three times for the offence between 1998 and 2000.

Five times the champion jockey in Italy, Demuro has won Group One contests around the world, including the Dubai World Cup on Victoire Pisa at Meydan in March 2011. The Racing Post quoted him as saying:

"I'm stupid, it's never happened to me before in my life. I feel very bad, I'm a professional and shouldn't do that"

It had 'Better Be Mine' in the 5:20

With several selection across the two cards at Wolverhampton and Lingfield Park already today I feel that if there was a single horse that stand out outside of that group it would be the P&G' highlighted 'Better Be Mine' (9-2) ridden by Ryan Moore.

I would have been far happier had he been competing over 10f but feel that it could be clever placing in a race with relatively well exposed rivals where Better Be Mine need do no more than he has previously done in his last two outings.    

Raul and Khun John provide a good start to the June campaign

I would hate to see the win of Khun John as getting out of jail but when several earlier selection had failed, some miserably, we found ourselves four points down on the day with everything resting on Khun John in last nights 9:00 at Kempton Park. Khun John was the 'On The Money' and 'The Actuary' selection and the only two pointer of the day, as such, I had always felt this to be our strongest bet. My biggest concern was that this was an Apprentice Handicap but had no concern that the jockey on our selection could turn the four point deficit in to a five point profit having taken 2x 9-2 with BetFred and Bet365.

Raul DeSilva had Khun John in a prominent sit having grabbed the rail from the stalls. He was then seen to give his mount a couple of tugs due to the pedestrian early pace and Khun Johns inability to settle. There was a little concern as pace was injected in to the race and Khun John slowly dropped back through the field. It wasn't until late in to the straight that Khun John was switched wide and became balanced enough to whittle down the lead to the cries of 'Raul' in the manner of a werewolf howl from a close friend of mine to take the race by a comfortable neck.   

Hitting the post with the P&G's

With two P&G interests on Kempton's card, I only manage to hit the post. As staunch an advocate I am of methodical processes, the seasonally named Jubilee Brig in the 6:00 went un-backed by me as it had been trading all day at around 1-3. With four unknown quantities on Polytrack in the race I think that would be a gamble to far. Even after the event its SP of 4-7 and comfortable victory didn't make me feel that perhaps I should have played.

With a couple of non-runners in the 8:30 the P&G selection Roserrow ran creditably to finish second at 12-1 beaten a length by my top rated and favourite Curzon Line. I had been tempted at that price to back it EW but having already backed another selection in the race felt that one of the two would win. 

Come out of the 8:30 smelling of Roses!

With the loss of Legendary and Dare To Dream intodays 8:30 at Kempton Park my P&G figures have drawn my eyes towards Roserrow. Lightly raced and already a distance winner on the Polytrack at Lingfield Park, 12-1 (15-1 BF) looks a very generous price.

Agreed that we have little information on how consistent Roserrow is likely to be after flopping at Newmarket over 8f on first appearance, you have to feel that the win at Lingfield Park would suggested that there is improvement to come. As I have already put up a Speed and Class selection in the race, at the prices taken I am more than happy to take the two against the field. 

What's not to like about Main Sequence?

Not my area of expertise but I thought I would cast my eye over the Derby runners today for a small interest.

The one thing that immediately struck me is how a horse that is yet to go beyond 8f is an odds on favourite. As impressive as Camelot has been, going in to the unknown in having to run 33% further than previous tests doesn't strike me as a value bet. I am sure that last years winner and the breeding has some bearing on the current price.

Equally astounding is that we have a horse in the race yet to be beaten from four starts, yet to be fully stretched and has won over 12 furlongs.

It may have been a quirk of fate that drove the Lingfield Derby Trial on to the Polytrack and I personally get very annoyed at the constant derogatory remarks made about All Weather racing for obvious reasons, but boy will I be chuckling if Main Sequence can land today's Derby after coming of the All Weather.

EV charge point installations at Jockey Club Venues

Jockey Club Venues has joined forces with Chargemaster Plc., provider of electric vehicle charging infrastructure, for the installation of electric vehicle (EV) charge points at all 14 of the portfolio’s racecourses.

The first EV charge point operation began at Kempton park Racecourse on 30 May, with subsequent installations at Sandown Park and Epsom Downs to complete Jockey Club Venue’s three London racecourses. This will be closely followed by Newmarket, Exeter and Wincanton Racecourses.

The move is part of Jockey Club Venues’ sustainability strategy highlighting initiatives to improve the ease with which conference and events clients can reduce their carbon emissions and improve energy efficiency. The points will enable users to fully charge an EV for just 95p, allowing travel of up to 109 miles dependent on the vehicle.

"These EV charge points will further widen the Jockey Club Venues’ appeal to those planners who denote sustainability as a criterion for their events. We hope that corporates will switch on to the significant cost savings that can be achieved through electric vehicle travel," says Jockey Club Venues’ Group Director of Operations, John Baker.

The partnership is part of the POLAR initiative committed to building a network of 4,000 charge points across Britain by the end of 2012 to sustain expected growth in Evs.

"We have seen a dramatic increase in the installation of EV charge points in the last 12 months, but this is the first time a racecourse has undergone this process," says Chief Executive of Chargemaster, David Martell. "In the next 18 months, it is predicted that 29 new models of plug-in cars will be launched to the UK market, and Jockey Club Venues will be prepared for the time when EV charge points are a necessity for all venues."
