Murphy gives Hughes a master class & possible Winter Derby shock @ 16-1
Yesterday became almost a carbon copy of Thursday with Seek
The Fair Land replaced by Emerald Breeze and the 'Profile' horses only placing again! I am sure Hugh Taylor will certainly feel that
his little black cloud has lifted with both his selections Biscuiteer and Breccbennach winning
their respective races. Watching the re-runs on my return from Hospital last
night, the one thing that grabbed my attention was the ride of Oisin Murphy on
Purcell when head to head with Richard Hughes in Lingfield Parks 4:10.
It is hard to divorce jockey-ship from the calibre of the
horse beneath, but I feel on this occasion that 3lb Claimer Oisin Murphy gave
Hughes a master class. After duelling down the home straight with neither
jockey giving an inch, the supremely confident Oisin Murphy appeared to do no
more than stay with Hughes until asking for that little bit more in the final
three strides to shade Hughes on Brownsea Brink. That one race alone shows for
me what an exceptional talent Murphy is likely to become and how futile keeping
the 3lb claim is likely to be.
We have some mouth-watering racing today at Lingfield Park
today with Mr Murphy in the plate on Highland Knight (5:00) and Van Percy
(5:30). Given how precious his claim is viewed you would be hard pressed to
rule out the chances of either.
Looking through the candidates for The Winter Derby it is
hard to ignore the front three in the market but the more you look, the more
aware you become that the race is likely to have any number of hard-luck
stories due to the field size and running styles. If we are to see the front three
turned over it might just come in the form of Rebellious Guest who has to be a sound
EW proposition at 16-1.
Keep well and enjoy your day ;)

Stephen Craine @ Wolverhampton, the stats tell you NO! + 4 Win and Place for today.
It is always disappointing when taking a retrospective look
at the day’s results alongside the speed figures and with the benefit of hindsight, being able to see how and why results had materialised in the way they had. Of course, the more obvious and subsequently shorter prices winners were there for all
to see, but even in those circumstances we have a tendency to look for something
more spectacular than the obvious. Perhaps the writing was on the wall from the outset with the jockey change of Stephen Craine who falls out the stalls on
Hugh Taylors tip for the day and 2 point selection for The Actuary subscribers,
Invigilator.
Not that I have anything personal against Stephen Craine
generally, it’s just a Stephen Craine at Wolverhampton thing. I am bemused by any trainer putting him in the plate at the course unless the intentions is to
ensure a lower future handicap mark.
If there was any salvation on the day, it came in the form of Seek The Fair Land at
5-4 and perhaps the fact once again the 3 profile horses, although unable to
get their heads in front, did all finish in the frame! Not exactly what we are
looking for here but I am sure our patience, based upon my year of history, will be rewarded. I did say at the outset there will be bumps and bruises
along the way in my first post on the topic Where
did that horse come from and why is it here today?.
I am adamant that these horses, are on the whole, placed to
win and hence, not surprised in the high frequency that they are placed. With
four ‘Profile’ horses today perhaps the order of the day may be ‘Win’ & ‘Place’
on the exchanges.
While you are reading this I will be having a long awaited ‘Flexible Cystoscopy’
operation so please pray I don’t come around during surgery and enjoy your days
racing on my behalf. The upside is Saturday will be spent at home convalescing in bed
watching the Winter Derby.
Remember, what ever your day is like, it should be better than mine! ;)

Stephen Arnold and the quivering jelly fish + 3 for today!
No sooner had I typed the words ‘no skulduggery as witnessed yesterday’ in my post, Wednesday’s early breaking news centred on Stephen Arnold and 12 Ann Stokell runners across the two cards at Lingfield Park and Kempton Park. A handful of the 12 appearing to set up the pace for the target horses. You could sense Stephen Arnold’s frustration when interviewed on ATR with the most poignant comment brushed aside by Matt Chapman in the hope to sensationalise what appeared to be unprecedented market support for several of the Stokell trained horse. Owner Stephen Arnold had attempted to place a £2 Lucky 63 with several bookmakers resulting in betting being suspended on 7 races.
The suggestion was that punters had latched on to a Stephen Arnold tweet after placing his bet and jumped on the bandwagon causing prices to collapse. As only Bet365 were prepared to take Stephen Arnolds bet it gives you some insight in to the gutless, risk averse, quivering jelly fish we have today in the bookmaking fraternity.
After yesterday’s excellent turn out it is somewhat disappointing to see a return to the depleted field sizes for today and Friday, which is marginally better. The question before the BHA at present is whether the horse population can support Great Leighs (Chelmsford City), potentially Catterick and Newcastle providing more All Weather racing. As much as I relish the idea of all 3 recent field sizes would suggest that this is likely to be unsustainable.
On the home front, yesterday’s three ‘Profile’ horses provided some bumps and bruises and tarnished a record of every selection being in the first three home with only Sound Advice filling the frame. The Hugh Taylor v The Actuary selections suffered the same indignity as we mirrored each other’s picks. We go again today with another three today that unfortunately all look likely to be shorter than 5-1. Enter your email below and it will take you to today’s three profile horses or navigate to the link you have already if you have previously submitted your email.
Have a great days racing ;)

looking for here but I am sure our patience, based upon my year of history, will be rewarded.
